Ottawa just had a huge earthquake!

We just had a 5.5 earthquake! It lasted about a minute and a half (108 seconds - according to google). Our house shook enough that Mike and I each ran and grabbed a kid and stood under a sturdy archway.

Having battled earwigs earlier, Olivia kept asking if a giant earwig was shaking the house......

Money see Monkey do!

Two year olds can cook?

Owens first attempt at making his own rice cereal. Owen has watched me make his rice cereal for a while now and yesterday he figured he would make an attempt at doing it by himself.

I guess it really isn't a bad thing that he tried to copy me and make his own cereal.

He selected a large plastic cup to use. (I normal put 1 tbsp. of dried rice cereal with his milk. He loves it that way!) Owen added 4 cups of dried cereal then water from our automat water dispenser. He managed to carry the large cup full of slop into my office without spilling.

Wanting to show me he was a big boy making his own food.
He then quickly took one large gulp of the mushy mess and started to cry as the dried cereal filled his mouth. The shocked look on his face that his recipe was awful was priceless!

Needless to say, when I went into the kitchen it was a little messy. LOL.

This summer’s new novel “Shrinking Forward” available on Amazon in about 5 weeks!

Shrinking Forward
By Nathalie Leblanc

The vile wizard Edgar has destroyed Fairmont Island, which was once ruled by the kind and benevolent Queen Marina, a faerie. After Edgar destroyed her beautiful homeland, and set fire to the trees, he deposed the queen and imprisoned her people, the Magical Flyers. Like tiny human beings with wings, or elves, the Flyers lost their happy days and were cruelly incarcerated in silver cages, and physically forced into helping the notorious wizard rebuild Marina's castle to his liking. The elderly Edgar is obsessed with finding The Book of Faeyess, a tome that explains how the Magical Flyers can live so long -- a book like no other, this mysterious and elusive work carries the secret to the mystery of longevity. And Edgar must find it soon to prolong his life, which is coming to an end because of his advancing age.

One day shy of 13 Samantha is insecure about her position in the family. Her two brothers are biologically related to their father but she is not. Her father favours the boys and they tease her mercilessly. To add insult to injury, she has entered puberty, struggles with acne and low self-esteem, and her family has forgotten her birthday! What a perfect time for Samantha to take off on an adventure with her best friend Catherine.

The two girls explore a haunted house, find a magic coat, and suddenly discover a passage into another world where although they are only in seventh grade, they are in charge of saving Marina and the Mystical Flyers. The fate of Fairmont Island lies in their young hands.

Shrinking Forward is rife with unique characters, innovative concepts, and enchanting ideas. The book has a powerful message for young people: “Smaller creatures have moved mountains. Size is no limitation! One’s own will decides what one is capable of doing!” Marina tells the girls. If you’re looking for suspense, action, a classic battle between good and evil, and a dab of romance, this delightful book will not disappoint.

Footsteps above the attic door!?

At 9pm last night, in a panic Meagan ran out of her room into mind. She told me she heard footsteps above the attic door! I didn’t know what to think after this. I told her to say in my room with Owen. Then I closed the door behind me as I left the room. I went to the attic door that led to the roof. I also heard odd footsteps and creaking above the attic door. Next, I counted all the kids to make sure they were all in their beds, like they were supposed to be. When all four kids were accounted for, I went quickly to get Mike whom was working downstairs at the time.

I told him Meagan and I could hear footsteps above the attic door! He immediately went upstairs to investigate. He too could hear strange noises! But what was it? While I stood watch, he quickly went to get a large flashlight and ladder to climb up and inspect the inside of the attic.

Mike raddled the door, making sure if he opened it a raccoon or some kind of wild animal wouldn’t fall right on his face.

So I waited… and waited.

At the top of the ladder, he slowly lifted the old wooden door, while I held a large flash light, Mike looked around the room. He had his hand ready for attack. But he didn't see anything. He popped he head all the way up into the attic, inspecting everything.

Nothing moved about or was disturbed.

What had we heard for the last twenty minutes then? Maybe it was the ghost in our attic or was it just creaking sounds of an old house setting down for the night?
We now have two good sturdy locks on that door!We went to the brick and got Mike a computer chair with the credit we had there. Were both tired also! I can’t seem to wake up today. I think I will hit the hay early again tonight!

Leap frog on beds at the Brick!

Today we went to the Brick to ask them once again to fix the couch we bought from them! We purchased an extended warranty package. Which I have to say was an excellent idea on Mike’s part! After 2 hours of shopping around and waiting for response. Olivia was very bored. The sales lady said Olivia could go play on the beds. My four year old Olivia took full advantage of the situation and decided to go bed jumping. She went from one side of the room and bounded herself all the way to the other, in a long row of ten beds! Olivia thought it was the greatest thing in the world. The best part about going to the Brick today. Clearly, Olivia jumping on the beds. VERY FUNNY!!!

Caught red handed! Embarrassing Moments…

Meagan tried to take my home cordless phone to school today! Thinking it could work just like a cell phone, when it’s just a regular phone! LOL. She called her grandmother from the bus stop! Which it did work from that distance, since it’s only across the road. Luckily, Grandma called back because she wanted me to know that Meagan had my phone. She got caught when the phone was ringing. It would have been an interesting day without a phone to use!

Super deep hole in my back yard!

2008-05-31
Meagan and Joyce wanted to dig the deepest hole ever in our backyard. When I asked them, why were they digging such a deep hole? “They claimed that if they dig far enough they will reach China.”

Trapped in the darkness

Night and day brought nothing but pain, for the light was everywhere. It hunted her, tortured her, and drove her to hide beneath the safety of her thick blankets. Even then, she felt it worm it's way in toward her, like an evil spirit wanting to burn her skin; sizzling her flesh, like an egg frying for breakfast in the early morning.
The brightness hid everywhere. It was so hot that it felt as though it could burn a hole right through her head. The numbers on her stove clock glowed in a brilliant heat that seemed to beam outwards, like an arm with a lit match. Taunting her... hunting her... ready to cook her for lunch.
With every step she took, darkness needed to surround her. There was only safety in the shadows, but it brought a sadness upon her soul that crept up into madness. Another day... Still, light tried to penetrate her, burning her, igniting her on fire as if she deserved to be burned alive. Invisible burns cover her entire body; only she could see them.
“HELP ME!” she cried, allowed.
Nobody answered... mocking laughter and giggles echoed her mind.
“That’s a bit extreme!” one voice answered.
“Wait... time will make it go away,” said another.
Why did they laugh at her suffering? Did they enjoy her pain?
No one believed the light hunted her, brought insanity upon her soul. It invaded her mind, like an army invading an enemy country. She was transformed into a shell, her soul floating away from her.
The morning sun was her worst enemy, as she fought to see. Her body and mind wouldn’t allow the light to come in...Her eyes were forced to weld shut. The light brought her blindness, a total darkness that spread out around her.
Another day, the battle was lost... Walking around in her castle, little beams of light chased her from one room to the next. Sunglasses were worn for protection, and she moved her head quickly to avoid the light, trying to stay in the shadows and darkness. Making sure the light wouldn’t catch her. She waited, hoping it wouldn’t cook her alive today. Her tears may have fallen from heaven... but her body was burning in Hell.
